Two 23-year-old Oxnard men are expected to be arraigned early this week in connection with the June shootings of two people attending a baby’s wake.

Peter Torres was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder and Juan Dimas was arrested in late July also on suspicion of attempted murder, said Oxnard Police Det. Terry Burr. Both are being held at the Ventura County Jail.

Burr said one of the men is suspected of driving a car while the other allegedly shot two people, one in the hip and one in the back, at the site of a June 18 funeral gathering on Azalea Street for a baby who had died of sudden infant death syndrome.

The men yelled gang slogans at the wake’s guests, and came back shooting about 15 minutes later, Burr said.

The two victims have been treated at a hospital and released, although one still has a bullet lodged in her back, Burr said.

Dimas was arrested in July when he showed up at a parole meeting for another crime. Torres was arrested at Wasco State Prison, where he was serving time for another crime, and has been transferred to Ventura County Jail.
