Shopping Cart Misusers
* Re “Fine Misusers of Shopping Carts,” July 20 letter:
Of course hold responsible and punish the people who are breaking the law by illegally removing grocery carts, do not punish the person who owns them.
What law did the owner of the carts break that he should be held responsible or even be inconvenienced for retrieving the carts, his property? In what other crime of theft is the victim asked to take the responsibility to locate and retrieve goods stolen from him?
These carts, by law, should not ever have left his property. The posted signs state this in English and in Spanish. If this law were properly enforced there would obviously be a lessening of this problem.
Also, with the inevitable total loss of some of these carts, the price of groceries goes up for all of us.
