SANTA ANA — A 29-year-old bicyclist who was riding on a downtown street late at night without a helmet was struck and killed by a car, authorities said Saturday.
Jorge Martinez, whose hometown and occupation were unknown, was struck by the car in the 300 block of South Jackson Street about 10:50 p.m., Santa Ana police Lt. Dave Petko said.
The bicyclist suffered major head injuries and died at the scene, he said.
Petko said police responded to a radio call of a “man down in the street” and found the victim by his mangled bicycle.
Police have no description of the car, which fled the scene, he said.
