Clippers Renounce Rights to Sealy
The Clippers renounced the rights to guard Malik Sealy on Friday and signed free-agent center Keith Closs.
Sealy, the Clippers’ second-leading scorer (13.5) last season, earned $1.7 million last season.
The Clippers, who also renounced the rights to guard Terry Dehere last month, have opened up $3.2 million to sign a free agent. They could make a move as early as Thursday, when the salary cap is expected to rise from $25 million to $26.4 million.
The departure of Sealy and Dehere could mean increased playing time for guard Brent Barry.
The 7-foot-3 Closs, who wasn’t selected in the 1996 or 1997 NBA drafts, played for Norwich (Conn.) of the Atlantic Basketball League last season.
He averaged 11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.4 blocked shots in eight games for the Laker summer league team.
