Elephant Found Dead in Trailer

Animals belonging to a circus were taken into custody after police found an elephant dead in a poorly ventilated trailer, officials said. They said the elephant probably died from excessive heat. Two other elephants and eight llamas owned by the King Royal Circus of San Antonio were taken. Animal handler Ben Davenport, 23, of Laredo, Texas, was cited on suspicion of cruelty to animals.
