Crowd Heckles Rabin’s Widow at Blast Site
JERUSALEM — Crowds booed and heckled the widow of assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on Friday when she visited the vegetable market where two suicide bombings killed 15 people.
Vendors and shoppers at the Mahane Yehuda market shouted “Daughter of a whore!” and “Go away, nobody wants you here!” when Leah Rabin arrived.
Surrounded by police, Rabin covered her ears as she made her way to onion vendor Israel Salah, one of nearly 170 people hurt in the July 30 bombings, blamed on Palestinian militants.
Salah said nothing, but he did shake Rabin’s hand.
Shoppers and workers at the market tend to be politically right-wing.
