Trash Collection Fees to Go Up Next Month
Residents will pay slightly more for trash collection beginning next month, the City Council has decided.
The rates for city households will increase about 3.7%, from $11.74 a month to $12.17, an increase of 43 cents a month, or $5.16 a year, above the current rate.
The increase was needed to offset higher costs to the contractor, Waste Management of Orange County Inc., which collected more pounds of refuse than usual in Tustin this year, city officials said.
However, the fee increase will be offset a bit for all but new households, city Finance Director Ron Nault said. Residences that received trash collection services last year will pay 9 cents less per month, a form of credit from a $14,000 surplus in the city’s trash fee account.
Those residences will be charged $12.08 in monthly trash collection fees.
