Citizens Panel Pushing Mariner’s Mile Study
The City Council on Monday may hire a consultant to help it figure out how to improve the commercial district known as Mariner’s Mile.
A citizens committee is urging the council to hire City Lights Design Alliance to study the district, at a cost of $30,000.
Mariner’s Mile, at Coast Highway between Newport Boulevard and Dover Drive, lacks a distinctive identity and needs landscaping, according to a committee report.
The committee said that by creating an identity for the district through signs and other measures, the city could attract new businesses and investment.
The council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 3300 W. Newport Blvd. Information: (714) 644-3309.
