JetHawks Lose On Late Error, 9-7
A bobbled ball by left-fielder Jim Horner allowed the go-ahead run to score in top of the eighth inning and the Visalia Oaks beat the Lancaster JetHawks, 9-7, Monday in a California League game at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.
With two outs, Eric Chavez doubled to left, and when Horner couldn’t field the ball cleanly, David Newhan was able to score from first. Newhan had walked with one out. A bases-empty home run by Dionys Cesar added an insurance run in the ninth.
The JetHawks (4-1) took a 5-0 lead in the first, with Jason Regan hitting a two-run home run to left-center, his second in as many days, and Shawn Buhner belting a three-run, opposite-field homer to right against Visalia starter Kevin Gregg. Buhner had four runs batted in.
The Oaks scored twice in the second and once each in the third and fourth to make it 5-4. Lancaster scored twice in the fifth inning to pull ahead, 7-4, but Visalia tied it in the seventh on a three-run homer by Chavez.
