U.S. to Keep Assets in Mexican Mafia Case

The seven-month conspiracy case against 13 reputed members and associates of the Mexican Mafia ended Friday when the jury decided that the federal government could keep two cars and $2,409 in cash that the FBI seized from three defendants.

On May 30, the same jury convicted 12 of the 13 defendants on racketeering and conspiracy charges, including murder and extortion.

On Friday, the jury concluded that the defendants had acquired the assets by illegal means or using them in the course of their criminal activity, particularly drug dealing and trafficking, and that the items would not be returned to them.
