$1.1 Million Granted to Services for Elderly

More than $1.1 million in federal and state grants has been awarded to 17 charities and government agencies by Ventura County for a variety of services aimed at the elderly.
“These programs are designed to allow senior citizens and their families to remain self-reliant and independent through a network of supportive services,” Board of Supervisors Chairman John Flynn said.
The awards include:
* $737,798 to the Ventura County Public Social Services Agency, $66,500 to the county Transportation Commission and $19,465 to FOOD Share Inc. for meal programs.
* $66,057 to Long Term Care Services for ombudsman services.
* $38,000 to Ventura County Public Health and $20,932 for Catholic Charities for in-home support services.
* $33,250 to Grey Law of Ventura County for legal assistance.
* $32,000 to the Rehabilitation Institute of Santa Barbara for services in Ventura County.
* $28,500 to the county Department of Human Resources for a volunteer training and recruitment program.
* $23,750 to the county district attorney’s office for consumer education services.
* $14,000 for the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District; $8,366 to the city of Moorpark; and $4,459 to the city of Santa Paula for their respective senior centers.
* $9,500 to the Home Support Group for hospice services.
* $7,500 each to Catholic Charities and HELP of Ojai, and $5,000 to Simi Valley Hospital for health promotion and disease prevention.
