Yount Recalls the Glory Days

From Associated Press

Robin Yount couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic with the St. Louis Cardinals back in town Wednesday night.

And because of him, neither could the big crowd at County Stadium.

Before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, Yount commemorated the Cardinals’ return to Milwaukee by tooling around the ballpark on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The trip was reminiscent of his excursion after the Milwaukee Brewers’ heartbreaking seventh-game loss to St. Louis in the 1982 “Suds Series”--the only World Series appearance of Yount’s 19-year career.

As Yount rode past the Cardinals’ dugout, St. Louis third-base coach Rene Lachemann playfully tossed several baseballs at him. Yount then parked near the Brewers dugout, went to the mound and fired a high, fast one to Brewers first-base coach Jim Gantner, who starred with him in the ’82 Series.

Yount hit .414 (12 for 29) in the 1982 Series.
