UCLA Pitcher Zamora Signs With Dodgers
UCLA junior left-hander Pete Zamora, selected by the Dodgers in the 20th round of the free-agent draft, has signed with the team and been assigned to the Yakima (Wash.) Bears of the Northwest League, Zamora said Tuesday.
“I’m very excited and I’m ready to go,†said Zamora, a former standout at Capistrano Valley High, where he played for his father, Bob.
Zamora, 6-2 with a 5.06 earned-run average for UCLA last season, also was the Bruins’ starting first baseman. He batted .379 with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs.
However, Zamora said he was drafted as a pitcher, not a position player.
