Big-Rig Drivers

As a daily user of the big-rig freeway, the 710, I must put in a good word for the maligned big-rig drivers. Guiding their lumbering behemoths to and from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, they are unfailingly courteous, careful and considerate drivers. Most of them are working against time and I admit that some do exceed the speed limit--as does the vast majority of users of that particular drag strip!

I suspect that many of the jackknife accidents are caused when impatient motorists cut in front of the big rigs, making them brake suddenly--something they are not designed to do. I allow the monsters their space, travel gratefully in their shade on my afternoon southbound journey and unfailingly wave my thanks when they let me into the stream of traffic. If you are kind to them they won’t hurt you!
