Word of Ozomatli Is Getting Around

The cult of Ozomatli may be multiplying soon. The 12-member group of musical chaos, whose fervent following has been keeping the local club scene alive over the past few months, not only inked a recent recording deal with Almo Sounds but is the only Latin-based group to be invited to perform at KROQ’s Weenie Roast and during the L.A. dates of the H.O.R.D.E. tour. . . .
Among those who made the backstage scene at No Doubt’s bash at the Pond were members of Tijuano No!, an influential punk en espan~ol band from the Tijuana barrios. The cool thing was, No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont recognized the group before they were introduced. Seems he’s a fan. . . .
Hole’s Courtney Love did her own club hoppin’ this weekend, making it to the Roxy on Friday night for the Dinosaur Jr./Imperial Teen double-header, and to the Good Luck bar on Sunday for some mellow Silver Lake diversion. . . .
In last week’s Club Hoppin’, Spaghetti Western was labeled a “classic rock tribute band.” Turns out there’s another Spaghetti Western in these parts. The one currently on the scene is a “country rock band doing an Eagles kind of thing,” says the group’s front man, David Blasucci (The band performs tonight at American Pie, Santa Monica).
