The Fulfillment Fund, 1801 Ave. of the Stars, Suite 250, Los Angeles, needs mentors to help guide struggling but intelligent students from the eighth grade into college. Mentors need to be at least 25 and willing to go through a background check and spend at least one day a month with the student for a minimum of five years. Mentor relationships often last longer. The fund provides social, cultural, educational and recreational events to expose students to different life experiences. Intensive training is also provided.
The fund also needs volunteers for its College Pathways project, which helps students in inner-city classrooms develop life plans. Call Janet Sarver, mentor program specialist, or Mike McGallard, College Pathways project director, at (310) 788-9700.
The Los Angeles Sertoma Club needs members for a nontraditional community service group. Volunteers would work with young people who need tutoring, special attention, job training and positive peer association. Projects being considered include a citywide junior golf tournament, a baseball camp and a speech contest. Call George Carter, secretary-treasurer, at (818) 716-8384.
The Wellness Community--Valley/Ventura, a nonprofit organization that provides free psychological, emotional and social support to adults with cancer and their families, needs volunteers to perform general office tasks such as answering phones, word processing and greeting clients.
