Bezonsky’s Sweep Helps Wolverines Reach Final

Led by Kevin Bezonsky’s sweep at No. 1 singles, the Harvard-Westlake High boys’ tennis team defeated Palm Desert, 15-3, in a Southern Section Division III semifinal match Thursday at Palm Desert.
The Wolverines (18-5) will face Westlake, an 11-7 victor over Garden Grove, in the final on Wednesday.
Bezonsky won his sets by scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3 for the second-seeded Wolverines, who also received sweeps from No. 1 doubles team Kamyar Daneshvar and Aron Gortman (6-2, 6-0, 6-2) and No. 2 doubles team Brian Bezonsky and Andrew Kowell (6-1, 6-3, 6-4).
Third-seeded Palm Desert finished 21-2.
Campbell Hall 11, Brentwood 7--Juniors Josh Glass and James Chun swept their sets at No. 1 doubles for the host Vikings (20-0) in a Division IV semifinal against the three-time champion Eagles (10-9).
The turning point came when Campbell Hall’s No. 3 doubles team of Justin Castillo and Daniel Abrams defeated Brentwood’s No. 2 team of Aaron Bayschuck and Mike Sloan in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6), to give the Vikings a 7-5 lead heading into the final round of play.
It was Campbell Hall’s third victory without a loss against its Delphic League rival.
The Vikings will face San Marino, a 13-5 victor over Chadwick, in the final.
