LAGUNA NIGUEL — Furon Co., which manufactures engineered polymer components, reported record net income of $5 million, or 54 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter ended May 3, 9% higher than the $4.6 million, or 50 cents a share, posted a year ago. Sales rose 26% to $119.6 million from $94.8 million.
The company attributed the improved earnings to continued gains in productivity throughout the company and controlled costs, along with contributions from Medex Inc., a medical products company that was acquired in January.
