Elliot Turrett has been hired as girls’ basketball coach at Taft High, Athletic Director Jim Woodard said Tuesday.
Turrett, who coached boys’ teams at Birmingham and Crossroads, will be Taft’s fifth coach in as many years.
Woodard is hopeful that Turrett, who has been hired as a counselor, will stick around a while.
“Stability was one of the criteria [of the job description],” Woodard said.
Taft finished 7-12 and last in the West Valley League last season.

DiFranco helped the Mariners, who play in the Central Coast Section, to a share of the past two league championships.
