Cement Truck Driver Killed in Offramp Crash
The driver of a cement truck who lost control of his vehicle on a freeway offramp in Ventura on Tuesday afternoon died when the truck flipped over and landed on its cab.
The driver, who California Highway Patrol officials did not identify, was going too fast on the transition road from the Ventura Freeway to Highway 33 at about 3:30 p.m., witnesses said. The truck skidded, slammed against the guardrail, slid for about 20 feet and flipped over, landing on its cab, witnesses said.
The California Highway Patrol closed the transition road for more than five hours.
A witness, who declined to give his name, said he climbed over to the truck to try to help the driver, and stayed with him until rescue crews arrived. The witness told paramedics the driver had no pulse for seven minutes. Paramedics were not able to revive the driver, the witness said.
