Thousand Oaks Gets Another Bit of Perfection From Sharron
Jennifer Sharron pitched a perfect game and Thousand Oaks High trounced Arroyo Grande, 14-0, in the first round of the Southern Section Division I softball playoffs at Thousand Oaks High on Friday.
Sharron, a senior, has three perfect games this season and seven in her career but this was her first in the playoffs. She had 12 strikeouts.
Kristin Combe was three for three with three RBIs and Jennifer Richards had two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers (24-3), who play Marmonte League rival Simi Valley in the second round. Thousand Oaks is 2-1 against the Pioneers this season.
In another Division I game:
Camarillo 9, Palmdale 1--Cindy Ball (12-4) pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven for the Scorpions at Camarillo.
Kortney Edge had two hits and two RBIs, Brooke Rutschman had three hits and an RBI and Jessica Mendoza hit a two-run triple for Camarillo (19-7).
DIVISION II
Saugus 7, Don Lugo 0--Nicole Giordano pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and had two hits, an RBI and scored twice for the Centurions (23-5) at Saugus.
Hart 11, Arroyo 4--Nicolette Weinstein and Megan Patrick each had two RBIs for the Indians (22-8) at Hart.
Paso Robles 3, Rio Mesa 2--Marcella Ramirez scattered nine hits and struck out four in seven innings, but Rio Mesa (14-7) fell short to host Paso Robles (16-8).
Mira Costa 7, Buena 1--Robin Peet had two hits and scored from third on a third-inning squeeze by Shannon Prentice to give the Bulldogs (16-9-1) a short-lived 1-0 lead at Mira Costa (18-9).
DIVISION III
Burroughs 3, Moorpark 2--Dani Morris scored a run and drove in a run with a sixth-inning single for Burroughs (16-10) at Moorpark.
Tracey Milburn had a home run and a double, scoring both runs for Moorpark (16-10).
DIVISION IV
Chaminade 10, Ramona Convent 0--Maureen LeCocq pitched a one-hitter and struck out 15 for the Eagles at Chaminade.
Karen Knokey had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for the Eagles (19-9).
Alemany 7, Calabasas 4--Tina Cureio had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Alemany at Sylmar Independent Baseball League Park.
Dos Pueblos 3, Harvard-Westlake 0--The Wolverines fell victim to a one-hitter by Maria Geaslez, who allowed a fifth-inning single by Val Alter, at Dos Pueblos (19-7).
Freshman Anna Russell (17-7) pitched a four-hitter for Harvard-Westlake (18-7).
Cabrillo 1, Notre Dame 0--Patricia Wetzel pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts but the Knights (11-13) lost at Cabrillo.
La Canada 8, San Gabriel Mission 2--Diane Abeles and Kristen Senac combined on a four-hitter and Lauren Herman had six RBIs for the Spartans (14-8) at La Canada.
DIVISION V
L.A. Baptist 7, Bishop Union 6--Stephanie Thuotte doubled home Bree Guettler and Megan Petersen in the seventh inning for the Knights at L.A. Baptist.
Paraclete 12, Alverno 0--Ruth Anderson hit her fourth home run in the first inning for Paraclete (24-3) at Jane Reynolds Park.
Flintridge Prep 3, Providence 2--Lizzie Parks’ sixth-inning single drove in Rochelle Gould to break a 2-2 tie at Flintridge Prep.
Parks was three for three with two RBIs.
