25 Local Students Win Scholarships

Twenty-five Orange County high school seniors have received National Merit Scholarship awards, organization officials announced.

The students will receive awards of $250 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

The latest recipients are in the third round of awards presented by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. A final group of winners will be announced in July.

The local winners are among 2,500 students nationwide cited for their academic records, test scores, leadership skills, extracurricular activities and contributions to school and community. They are:

Catanzaro, Esperanza High, Anaheim; Sarah A. Gertler, Villa Park High; Seth A. Hamilton, Calvary Chapel High, Santa Ana; Max D. Stites, El Dorado High, Placentia; Melanie M. Blunschi, Troy High, Fullerton; Wilmer R. Khong, Trabuco Hills High, Mission Viejo.
