Over the years I have been conditioned to tolerate Depeche Mode reviews written by journalists who, from the outside looking in, do not understand the relationship between the band and its followers. Therefore, I did not expect Sara Scribner’s review of the recent Shrine concert to provide any information of interest to true fans of the band (“Depeche Mode Still Has Some Demons to Dispatch,†May 19).

But is it too much to ask for the reviewer to at least know the names of the songs she is reviewing?

“Barrel of a Gun†is a solid song, but certainly not the best offered on the “Ultra†CD. “Bullet of a Gun†is not a Depeche Mode song.

Re: “Sneaker Pimps Can’t Find Solid Footing†(May 19). I’m glad Dennis Romero thinks that their Grammy-quality album “Becoming X†is “highly polished.†So far, it’s easily the best rock album of 1997.

I couldn’t attend the concert, but I wonder if Romero made it either: He called their great song “Spin Spin Sugar†“Swing Swing Sugar†by mistake. Could he have actually listened to it? It seems doubtful!
