Titans’ Alviso Gets Top Honors
Jerome Alviso of Cal State Fullerton was selected most valuable player of the Big West Conference tournament Sunday in a poll of writers covering the tournament.
Alviso, also named to the all-tournament team at third base, hit .500 (12 for 24) with six runs batted in to lead the Titans to the tournament title. Alviso was joined on the all-tournament team by Titan outfielders Chris Beck and Aaron Rowand, catcher Mike Lamb and shortstop Ryan Owens.
Long Beach State, runner-up to Fullerton, placed three players on the team: outfielder Paul Day, relief pitcher Ara Petrosian and first baseman Toby Sanchez. Also named to the team were Nevada outfielder Lyle Overbay and second baseman Justin Martin, and Pacific starting pitcher Dan Reichert.
