The Prom Report: The sit-down dinner may be eaten and the dancing done, but the party is hardly over. . . . San Fernando Valley high schools, including Hoover High in Glendale and Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills, are hosting post-prom parties on campus to keep students away from drugs, alcohol and hotel rooms.

Dressed Up: The prom dress can make or break an evening, so style is all-important. This year, teens are looking at flair dresses in chiffon or satin with little or no beading, says Adele Abiad, a veteran Tarzana designer. . . . Taft High School senior Kelly Luster, left, and Chatsworth High senior Kelly Sheldon will wear gowns from Abiad’s shop, Melissa Bridal.

Party Locale: Say so long to the stuffy and chichi. Hoover High is having its prom at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. “This offers a fresh alternative and students really enjoy having a new and different locale,†said teacher Joe Dume. . . . Other potential sites: the Nixon Library, Paramount Pictures’ Hollywood lot and the Santa Monica Airport.

Penny Wise: With teens shelling out hundreds of dollars for the one-night event, schools are looking for ways to subsidize the costs. Burbank High held fund-raisers all year. “This is an easy way for the kids to earn some discounts,†said Assistant Principal Christine Krohn. Instead of paying $65 each, students participating in the fund-raisers got tickets for as little as $20.
