The Right Steps

I’m writing to congratulate you on the absolutely wonderful article on flamenco in southern Spain (April 27). I am a producer of flamenco here in Los Angeles, having presented approximately 180 flamenco shows, mainly at the Fountain Theater. I also have a home in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and can vouch for the authenticity of your writer’s experience there.
All too frequently the flamenco reported on in this country’s media is of the superficial, commercial variety often found in the tablaos and restaurants frequented by tourists in Spain. I envy your writer’s good fortune in being able to hear the great Pedro Bacan (and his sister Inez) before his tragic death in January.
