Quake Rescue Work Ends; 1,560 Killed

The government said rescue teams ended their operations in 200 northeastern villages devastated by a strong earthquake over the weekend, and it revised the death toll downward from 2,400 to 1,560. In revising casualty figures, the government also reduced the number of injured from 6,000 to 2,810.
