Boy Hospitalized After Foundering in Ocean
A 10-year-old Oxnard boy was hospitalized in critical condition late Saturday after he foundered while swimming in the ocean near Marina Park in Ventura, authorities said.
The boy, who was visiting the park with his mother, washed up on the beach about 12:10 p.m., said Ventura County Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Rennie.
Beach-goers administered CPR until rescue units from the Ventura Harbor Patrol arrived. Paramedics then took over but were unable to reestablish a pulse.
The boy was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, where he was resuscitated and later transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
