Security Troops Kill 27 Kurdish Rebels

Security forces have killed 27 Kurdish guerrillas in recent clashes in eastern Turkey, the emergency-rule governor’s office said. The office, based in the city of Diyarbakir, said in a statement that 18 Kurdish rebels were killed in Mardin province and nine died in a clash in the eastern province of Tunceli. More than 22,000 people have died in the 12-year conflict between security forces and the Kurdistan Workers Party guerrillas, who are fighting for autonomy in the mainly Kurdish southeast.
