Area Team Wins U.S. Handball Title

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Mike Bock of Fountain Valley teamed with Long Beach’s Kelly Russell to win the masters (40-plus) division at the 1997 U.S. Handball Assn. Masters Doubles tournament Sunday at Los Caballeros Sports Village.
Bock and Russell defeated San Diego’s Jaimie Paredes and Mark Penick, 21-5, 21-14. In veteran masters (45-plus) competition, Aliso Viejo’s Skip McDowell and Bill Peoples of Missoula, Mont., defeated Dan Carillo (San Bernardino) and Tom Fitzwater (San Jose), 21-17, 21-17.
