Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks will celebrate the Scandinavian and Baltic cultures of its founders during an all-day festival on Saturday.
Cal Lutheran’s 24th annual Scandinavian Festival, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on campus at Kingsmen Park, 60 W. Olsen Road, will include folk dancing and music, theatrical performances and other activities.
This year’s festival will feature the “Midgardr Encampment,” a reenactment of Viking life in the year 1000 AD, with demonstrations of wool spinning, blacksmithing, leather working, rune writing and sword fighting.
The era of the Scandinavian renaissance and royal court life in 16th century Sweden will also be brought back to life by performers in period costume.
Authentic Scandinavian foods, including krumkake, lefse and rosettes, will be available for purchase at the festival, and the event will culminate with a Swedish smorgasbord.
Scandinavian crafts, jewelry, clothing and art will also be available.
Admission to the festival is $4 for adults and $1 for children under 10. Tickets for the smorgasbord are $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for those 5 and under.
For more information about the festival or smorgasbord reservations, call Cal Lutheran’s university relations office at 493-3151.
