Judge Blocks Icahn Group’s Marvel Bid
Carl Icahn lost a round in his fight for Marvel Entertainment Group Inc. when a Bankruptcy Court judge blocked a group led by the financier from taking control of the comic book publisher. The judge issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the bondholder group from taking control of the board of the company, executives representing bondholders and Marvel said. “Today’s court ruling means that Marvel and the banks are free to explore all options to protect the company’s future,†a Marvel spokesman said. He declined to comment further. The ruling is likely to delay the implementation of a final reorganization plan by sending both sides back to court. Marvel has contended that the bondholder group is fronting for Icahn’s interests to “grab control of the company without committing a dollar.â€
