Sowers Students Raise $14,000 in Heart Walk
Sowers Middle School raised more than $14,000 for the American Heart Assn. at its annual Heart Walk.
More than 800 students and their families walked, biked and skated down the city’s bike path to the Huntington Beach Pier, with most collecting pledges to raise money in the fund-raiser. About 12 local vendors handed out water, juice and snacks along the 5K route.
Each year the students pick a different charity and usually raise at least $10,000, Sowers Principal Paul Morrow said.
“The focus is on doing something for our community and helping students understand the importance of being an active part of where they live,†he said.
