U.S. Rounds Out Davis Cup Team
INDIAN WELLS — The U.S. Davis Cup hopes turned brighter Wednesday when the team gained the services of Andre Agassi and the world’s No. 2 doubles team.
U.S. captain Tom Gullikson announced his team for the second-round match against the Netherlands, April 4-6 at the Palisades Country Club at Newport Beach. Joining Jim Courier, who already had declared, are 13th-ranked Agassi, and the doubles team of Rick Leach and Jonathan Stark.
Gullikson said Pete Sampras and Michael Chang had declined invitations, and MaliVai Washington, who played singles against Brazil in the first round, is injured.
Agassi intended to play against Brazil but suffered an ankle injury in training.
It is not yet known whether the Dutch team will have Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek, who has been injured but is now recovered.
