Quartz Hills Sweeps Behind Pitching of Madsen, Allen
Behind the pitching of Mike Madsen and Travis Allen, Quartz Hill High swept Hesperia, 12-2, 4-1, Saturday in a season-opening nonleague doubleheader at Quartz Hill.
Madsen allowed three hits and struck out five over five innings in the first game. He also drove in four runs. In the second game, Allen pitched six innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out eight.

Antelope Valley 6-5, Crescenta Valley 0-1--Sean Douglass (1-0) allowed one hit over five innings and struck out seven to give the Antelopes (2-1) a nonleague doubleheader sweep at Crescenta Valley (0-2).
Agoura 9, Mayfair 8--Steve Lyons hit a game-winning double in the sixth inning for the Chargers (1-1) in an El Segundo tournament game. Lyons had two hits.
Newbury Park 17, Venice 10--The Panthers (2-0) were keyed by a 12-run third inning in a pool-play game at the Westside tournament. Ryan Ayers went three for four with three RBIs and Danny Greene had two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base.
Hueneme 9, Montclair Prep 3--A three-run home run by Jess Sanchez helped the Vikings (2-0) in a Westside tournament pool play game at Hueneme.
L.A. Baptist 27-17, Lone Pine 1-3--Peter Dirksen homered, tripled and doubled, and Raul Pacheco homered and the Knights (2-0) opened with a sweep of Lone Pine (0-2) in a nonleague doubleheader at L.A. Baptist.
John Wada four hits, scored five runs and drove in five runs for the Knights.
SOFTBALL
Buena 8, North Hollywood 1--Erin Kelly pitched a three-hitter, striking out 10 for Buena in the Simi Valley tournament.
Newbury Park 11, Artesia 0--Stacie BeShore pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven for Newbury Park in the Downey tournament.
Van Nuys 12, Schurr 2--Tatiana Gipson’s grand slam in the fourth opened up a 10-2 lead for the Wolves (1-2) in a second-round game at the Downey tournament.
Kennedy 3, Montebello 2--Sandra Durazo pitched a two-hitter and homered for Kennedy in a Downey tournament game.
Burroughs 3, Lompoc 0--J.T. Tyler (2-0) pitched a shutout for Burroughs in the Simi Valley tournament. Burroughs (3-0) defeated Dos Pueblos, 5-2, later in the day behind a home run by Dani Morris.
Saugus 8, Sylmar 0--Nicole Giordano pitched a two-hitter for Saugus (1-0) in the Hart tournament. Giordano also homered and tripled.
Hoover 1, Saugus 0--Siara Diaz singled to score Guinevere Platt in the sixth to lead Hoover (2-0) in the Hart tournament.
Alemany 6, Antelope Valley 3--A bases-loaded triple by Anngela De La Cerda in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie for Alemany (3-0) in the Simi Valley tournament. Earlier, Kim Biener pitched a one-hitter and Alemany defeated St. Bonaventure, 3-0,
Simi Valley 9, Burbank 0--Lori Tande pitched a two-hitter for the Pioneers (1-0) in the Simi Valley tournament. Earlier, the Pioneers defeated San Marcos, 9-0, behind a three-hitter by Cathy Gates.
Thousand Oaks 2-10, Chaminade 1-2--Justine Rachlin singled to score Lacey Cope and Erica Hansen drove in Rachlin with a single in the 11th inning to give the Lancers (2-0) the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Chaminade.
