Ferreria Balked at Oates’ Price Tag
The Ducks spoke to the Boston Bruins briefly about center Adam Oates before he was traded to Washington, but Anaheim General Manager Jack Ferreira said he wasn’t willing to trade the Ducks’ first-round pick and talks didn’t go any further.
Boston wanted a current Duck in addition to the draft choice, which will be a lottery pick if the Ducks fail to make the playoffs.

The anticipated details on the NHL’s plans for the Ducks and Vancouver Canucks to open the 1997-98 season in Japan call for the teams to play Oct. 4 and 5 at Tokyo’s 10,000-seat National Yoyogi Stadium.
The teams likely would leave for Japan on Sept. 29. An official announcement could come this month.

Contract talks on Coach Ron Wilson’s extension are underway. . . . Right wing Roman Oksiuta and defenseman Nikolai Tsulygin were the healthy scratches.
