Lia Cummins scored on a header in the 39th minute Thursday to lift Chaminade High to a 1-0 victory over Lakewood St. Joseph in a Southern Section Division III quarterfinal at Chaminade.

Cummins, a midfielder, scored her sixth goal from six yards on a long throw-in by Kerrie Clavadetscher.

Kim Nelli made four saves and recorded her 17th shutout for the third-seeded Eagles (21-3-3), who advance to play second-seeded Bonita (23-3) in a semifinal Tuesday.

Prior to this season, Chaminade made three previous postseason appearances, losing a wild-card match in 1992 and first-round matches in 1995 and 1996.

St. Lucy’s finished 18-8.

Harvard-Westlake 3, South Pasadena 1--Molly Cahan took a pass from Susan Baise and scored to break a 1-1 tie in the 75th minute for the host Wolverines (16-4-1) in a Division III quarterfinal.

Alice Graham gave top-seeded Harvard-Westlake a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute and Baise scored in the final minute.

The Wolverines advance to play fourth-seeded El Modena (18-7-2), last season’s Division II champion.

South Pasadena finished at 17-5.

Buena 2, St. Lucy’s 1--Barbara Almaraz scored her 18th and 19th goals to lift the Bulldogs (23-2-4) past the fourth-seeded Regents (21-6) in a Division II quarterfinal at Ventura College.

Trailing, 1-0, at halftime, Buena tied the match when Almaraz scored unassisted in the 50th minute. The senior midfielder scored the winner in the 64th minute, blasting a free kick from outside the penalty area off the goalkeeper’s hands.

Buena advances to play top-seeded Santa Margarita (17-1-3) on Tuesday in the Bulldogs’ fourth consecutive semifinal appearance.

Buena was eliminated in semifinal matches in 1994 and 1996, and lost to Long Beach Poly in the 1995 Division II final.
