UCI Graduate Programs Gain Rank
IRVINE — Four of UC Irvine’s academic programs are ascending in national rankings, according to the 1997 U.S News and World Report’s issue on top graduate schools released today.
In the drama/theater category, UCI’s program ranked 12th, up two places from last year. The report also gave UCI stars for the schools’ programs in design, directing and acting.
The School of Engineering moved to 45th from last year’s 49th slot. And UCI’s Graduate School of Management made the top 50 cut for the first time this year, placing 45th on a list lead by Stanford University.
UCI’s creative writing program, whose graduates include Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Richard Ford and poet Yusef Komunyakaa, ranked sixth. The University of Iowa topped this category, which was included in the report for the first time this year.
