Councilman Chosen for State Committee
City Councilman Bob Zemel has been appointed to the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee.
Zemel will be the nonvoting representative from local government and was appointed because of his “understanding of infrastructure needs and finance,†state Treasurer Matt Fong said.
Zemel said he is honored to serve on the committee and that the experience will help him gain a greater understanding of the relationship between the state and city governments.
“I hope to apply that knowledge to benefit Anaheim’s citizens,†Zemel said.
The committee is responsible for overseeing disbursement of federal tax credits apportioned to states. In 1996, California received $1.57 billion for disbursement in the areas of student loans, tax-exempt facilities, industrial development and housing programs.
