Four Players Hit First Homers of Season in 49er Victory

Steve Doherty, Chuck Lopez, Toby Sanchez and Brandon Hyde hit their first home runs of the season as Long Beach State beat California, 15-7, in a nonconference baseball game Monday at Blair Field.
Doherty drove in three runs, and Hyde, Lopez and Sanchez two each. Hyde and Jaron Madison each scored three runs for Long Beach, which has won four of five.
Ara Petrosian (1-0) gave up four hits and one run, and struck out six in 4 2/3 innings of relief to get the victory.
Petrosian, a transfer from Cypress College, has given up only one run in 16 innings for an earned-run average of 0.56 this season.
In a nonconference doubleheader:
Southern California College 9-0, Hawaii Pacific 3-1--Winning pitcher Aaron Bailey gave up six hits and three runs, two earned, in the first game for host SCC (7-4).
