Students Upset as Principal Resigns
Hundreds of parents and students on the Palos Verdes Peninsula are fuming over popular Principal Kelly Johnson’s abrupt resignation from Peninsula High School. Johnson, 48, plans to take over as principal of Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach next month.
Johnson announced his decision to leave the district last week, citing philosophical differences with Supt. Ann Chlebicki. He has refused to elaborate on his departure from the school district, where he started 28 years ago as a janitor.
At least 3,000 students took part in a walkout last week to show support for Johnson, who says he does not plan to change his mind. The Palos Verdes Unified School District Board of Trustees plans to meet today to discuss the situation.
