Shot Clock Recommended for Boys’ Basketball
Members of the CIF Southern Section Council voted Thursday to recommend using a 35-second shot clock for the 1997-98 boys’ basketball season.
Southern Section delegates will take the recommendation to the CIF meeting, Feb. 7-8 in Burlingame, where the item will be put to a statewide vote.
Before the item was approved at the Southern Section Council meeting at the Sequoia Athletic Club in Buena Park, members discussed establishing a 30-second clock for the boys’ game, which previously used no shot clock.
Art Munda, sports information coordinator for the Southern Section, said some members supported using the same 30-second clock the girls use, thus eliminating the need to buy new equipment. Other members supported the 35-second clock because that’s what is used in NCAA men’s basketball.
