Great Race Benefits Elementary Schools
Area families, school supporters and running enthusiasts will gather Saturday for the 12th annual Great Race of Agoura.
Proceeds from the races will benefit Oak Park and Agoura Hills elementary schools.
The event, which includes a 10K, 5K and two 2K runs, will begin and end at Agoura High School, 28545 W. Driver Ave.
The 10K race, which is open to all, begins at 8:30 a.m. A 5K run starts at 7:30 a.m. One 2K run, a competitive race for children ages 7 to 12, is at 8:15 a.m. Another 2K event, a family fun run for all ages, begins at 10 a.m.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be given to female and male finishers in several age groups in the 5K and 10K runs, and division awards will be given in all competitive races.
The fee for one race is $12 for adults and $10 for children, and each additional race is $2. Entry fees may be earmarked for any one of six schools--Brookside, Oak Hills and Red Oak in the Oak Park school district and Sumac, Willow and Yerba Buena in the Las Virgenes school district--to benefit from the race.
Bicycles, skateboards, in-line or roller skates will not be permitted on the courses, but strollers and wagons will be allowed in the family fun run.
Thousand Oaks Boulevard between Kanan Road and the high school will be closed to vehicles on the morning of the race.
Registration forms may be obtained from noon to 7 p.m. today at First Federal Bank, 5701 N. Kanan Road, or at the high school stadium between 6:30 and 9 a.m. on race day.
