Spotlight: Sunrise Medical to Combine Units, Cut Jobs
Sunrise Medical Inc. said it will consolidate its five North American home-care divisions into one unit, to be based in Boulder, Colo., and will eliminate 80 jobs. The Carlsbad maker of hospital and home-care products said consolidation of the units, which account for 40% of its total revenue, will cost about $4 million over the next six quarters. Sunrise also reported weak second-quarter earnings of $2.45 million, or 13 cents a share, compared with a loss of $24.1 million, or $1.28, a year ago.
