Two Men Disarm Alleged Robber, Hold Him for Police
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Two men disarmed a gunman who allegedly was trying to rob them and held him on the ground until police arrived, authorities said Tuesday.
Adrian Estrada, 23, of Huntington Beach had just sold his car and was carrying hundreds of dollars home about 7:40 p.m. Monday when a man brandished a sawed-off rifle at him and a friend near Barton Drive and Queens Lane, investigators said.
A fight ensued and the gunman fired three shots, one of which struck Estrada in the left hand, Police Lt. Bruce Kelly said. But Estrada and his friend, Javier Carrero, 22, of Huntington Beach, managed to wrestle the .22-caliber weapon out of the assailant’s hand and detain him, Kelly said.
Police arrested a man identified as Angel Gallegos of Garden Grove on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Gallegos suffered head injuries during the altercation and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was being held.
Estrada was treated for a gunshot wound at Pacifica Hospital in Huntington Beach and released, police said.
“All the money was recovered,†Kelly said. “It’s unknown if the person who purchased the vehicle was involved in this in any way, shape or form.â€
