Council Upholds Restaurant Expansion
The City Council has upheld a controversial Planning Commission decision to allow the owner of Seafood World to expand his restaurant at 15351 Brookhurst St.
The move was strongly opposed by Renato Longordo, owner of a nearby Italian restaurant, who said the proposed expansion would cause tremendous parking problems and traffic hazards that would unfairly impede his operation.
Longordo also collected nearly 500 signatures from nearby residents and business owners opposing the plan of Loc Buu, Seafood World’s owner, who had wanted to expand into a vacant 1,200-square-foot space next to his existing facility in a strip mall.
Longordo, who owns Renato’s Italian Restaurant, has filed a complaint in Superior Court. Seafood World, Longordo said, hosts weddings and banquets that tie up parking spaces for hours.
The Planning Commission and City Council both decided that the expansion would violate no city codes, however, and granted approval. The city’s Traffic Commission will study the area and offer recommendations to ease parking congestion.
