2nd Gang-Shooting Victim Named
SANTA ANA — The second victim of a weekend shooting was identified Monday as 18-year-old Miguel Fermin, a Stanton teenager and suspected gang member, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Fred Lisanti said.
Gunfire claimed the lives of Fermin and 16-year-old gang member Miguel Gomez of Stanton on Sunday afternoon as the pair sat in a car in the parking lot of a Stanton strip mall at Magnolia and Cerritos avenues. Witnesses said the gunman drove up to the car, got out and fired several rounds at the victims before getting back into his car and speeding away.
Authorities believe the shooting was gang related.
Gomez, whose family said that he was involved in gangs and had been arrested for graffiti vandalism several times, was shot at Saturday night by rival gang members as he stood outside his home, officials believe. No one was injured in that incident.
So far, no suspects have been identified in the double homicide but the investigation continues, Lisanti said.
Gomez died at the scene while Fermin died later at the Columbia West Anaheim Medical Center, officials said.
