Grand Jury Applicants Sought for Next Term
Orange County Superior Court is seeking applicants to serve on the grand jury.
The court has received 127 applications for the 19-member jury but would like a larger pool from which to choose, officials said.
An orientation session for prospective jurors is set for Feb. 2. The term runs July 2 to June 30, 1998. Applicants must be at least 18, have lived in the county for a year and submit to a background check and interview with a judge. U.S. citizenship is required.
Grand jurors, who hand down criminal indictments, investigate crimes and monitor public agencies, receive $25 a day when in session, mileage compensation and free courthouse parking.
The application deadline is Tuesday. Forms are available at the Orange County Courthouse, 700 Civic Center Drive, Room A100, Santa Ana. The courthouse is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
