Deputy Fatally Shoots Man at Car Dealership
A man was shot to death Monday evening after a confrontation with a sheriff’s deputy in West Hollywood, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Employees at a car dealership called the sheriff’s department complaining about a suspicious man wandering about the business, said Sgt. Robert Stoneman.
When the deputy arrived at the scene, the man “refused to cooperate, became combative and started fighting with the deputy,†Stoneman said. The deputy then used pepper spray, but was unable to subdue the man, authorities said.
“As the suspect continued fighting, the deputy then used his baton to strike the suspect, which had no effect on him,†Stoneman said.
“After the deputy used every means available in attempting to restrain the suspect, he subsequently fired one round from his duty weapon.â€
The man, whose identity was not available, was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy, whose name was not released, was not injured.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate the shooting. An investigation was ongoing.
