Group Will Discuss Public Use of Estuary
The Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station will soon grant the public controlled access to its estuarine salt marsh as part of an agreement between the base and the National Park Service.
The 2,000-acre marsh is the largest coastal estuary in Southern California, and is slated to become the westernmost anchor of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area.
A meeting is scheduled today from 9 a.m. to noon to discuss future use of the estuary.
The meeting, sponsored by the Sustainability Council of Ventura County, will outline various plans for a new educational learning center and educational activities for those visiting the unique habitat.
The meeting will be held at the James R. Cowan Conference Room at the Ventura County Schools Educational Service Center, 550 Airport Way, in Camarillo.
